The San Marcos Police Department released information regarding an aggravated assault that occurred Oct. 7 against a peace officer that resulted in an arrest.
Benjamin Reece Lawton,43, of Hazel Park, MI was arrested for aggravated assault on a public servant and criminal trespass.
Officers responded to a community-initiated call at the east McCarty Lane railroad tracks after the crew of a train reported that an individual refused to leave a rail car.
Police say that after Lawton was located inside one of the rail cars, Lawton pulled out a knife. Police say the officer drew his firearm and gave Lawton verbal commands to drop the knife. Once Lawton dropped the knife, he refused to get off the train and was tased and taken into custody. Lawton received a minor laceration to his leg during the incident.
Lawton was found to have a history of assaultive offenses on peace officers from multiple states, including being wanted out of Tennessee; however, the warrant is no extradition. Currently, Lawton is in the Hays County Jail with a bond of $155,000.
