Update 9:10 p.m. Nov. 18
In a press release posted on Facebook, Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said he contacted the FBI, but has not received an update as to what the operation was. However, the release did state that county officials believe the operation relates to an investigation into “potentially dangerous materials.”
In the release Becerra reaffirmed that no Hays County personnel were involved.
“I will update the public as I receive more information,” Becerra said in the release. “Our priority is always public safety, accuracy and transparency. As soon as verified information is available from federal authorities, we will share it with the community.”
The release urged residents to avoid the area and allow federal agents to work safely.
Original Story
The FBI confirmed they conducted a “court authorized activity” at a residence on Hilliard Road and Alpine Trail on Nov. 18.
The FBI declined to say what the activity was, or what time the activity took place. Local officials said they weren’t informed before the activity occurred.
“We have no additional information to share at this time,” The FBI’s San Antonio Spokesperson wrote in an email to The Star.
According to Hays County Sheriff Anthony Hipolito, the Sheriff’s Office played no part in the FBI’s operation. He said the FBI is not required to notify his office when conducting law enforcement operations in Hays County.
A spokesperson for SMPD said he was told the FBI was using the parking lot outside of Gold’s Gym as a staging grounds on the morning of Nov. 18, but didn’t know what for.
Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra was also unaware of any FBI activity in the county.
This is a developing story. The University Star will update as information becomes available.
