City Council added polling places Oct. 30 and were updated on the Transportation Master Plan.
The ordinance came after the Texas Civil Rights Project threatened litigation if the Commissioners Court did not extend on-campus early voting. In order to maintain a balance between precincts, it was recommended the Commissioners Court add one polling place to Precincts 1, 3 and 4.
City Council passed a responding ordinance to add one Election Day polling place in Precinct 1, 3 and 4. The motion to add the additional polling places in the precincts unanimously passed.
The locations include the LBJ Student Center on campus for Precinct 3, Live Oak Health Department at 401 Broadway St. San Marcos, Texas, for Precinct 1, and the Belterra Welcome Center at 151 Trinity Hills Dr. Austin, Texas, for Precinct 4.
The council was also updated on the Transportation Master Plan, which seeks to bring improvements to transportation methods of all kinds in San Marcos including access and use of roadways for vehicles, biking and bike lanes, pedestrian sidewalks and park trails. The next update is scheduled for early November.
