The Hays County Local Health Department reports one new COVID-19-related fatality Jan. 18, a Buda man in his 20s. There have been a total of 427 fatalities in the county.
The county also reported 1,500 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1,721 recoveries, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 41,108, total active cases to 5,890 and recoveries to 34,791. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 8,910.
San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 2,055, 1,854 and 1,172 active cases, respectively.
According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 322,676. The total number of hospitalizations is 1,497 and total current hospitalizations is 33 after 23 people were hospitalized and 12 were discharged.
The county reports 17 unvaccinated people and 16 fully vaccinated people are hospitalized. Five unvaccinated patients and six fully vaccinated patients are in the ICU.
