The Texas State Bobcats (11-15, 7-8 SBC) lost a sloppy game to the Arkansas State Red Wolves (21-7, 12-3 SBC) 75-61 Thursday evening at Strahan Arena.
The Red Wolves wasted no time getting into their press defense, causing problems for the Bobcats offense, creating turnover woes all night long as Texas State finished the game with a season-high 37 turnovers.
“[Arkansas State] sped us up, they did a really good job of speeding us up,” Texas State head coach Zenarae Antoine said. “It’s been a little while since we’ve seen that type of a press.”
Besides turnovers, the Bobcats also struggled to contain Arkansas State behind the arc. The Red Wolves, a team who shoots 28.3% from three on the season, shot 35% from three point land and made just a whopping 13 treyballs.
Red Wolves guard Zyion Shannon, the game’s leading scorer with 22 points, was responsible for four of her team’s threes. The senior made contributions on the defensive end as well with five steals.
Texas State sophomore forward Kyra Anderson, who recorded her eighth double-double of the season, continues to develop into a building block for the Bobcats. Anderson put up 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats will look to clean up offensively in time for senior night and sweep the season series against South Alabama at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Strahan Arena. The game will be available on ESPN+.
