Faculty Senate discussed salaries and safety concerns at its second meeting of the year, Jan. 24.
Sen. Elizabeth Bishop requested that the Office of Institutional Research look into the variations in salary between the different colleges on campus and then compare them to other institutions. This proposition came after several faculty members mentioned that they had received letters about small merit increases in their salaries, while others have not.
Toward the end of the meeting, the senate brought up concerns of alleged unfulfilled safety measures promised by President Denise Trauth last semester.
Sen. Jesse Gainer voiced concerns about faculty members and students having to walk in unsafe areas with improper lighting after night classes. The president’s office will present a list of all measures done in regards to the issue at next week’s meeting.
The senate is planning to release a committee preference survey to faculty members soon, allowing them to select which senate and university committees they would like to partake in during this upcoming year.
