Faculty Senate to participate in choosing new Dean of Education

Faculty Senate met to discuss how senators can aid the university in finding a new dean of the College of Education.
The College of Education is currently undergoing a search for a new dean, a process in which Faculty Senate is invited to attend and to give their input on.
Four candidates have been selected, one is a current faculty member. The first interview will take place at 9:15 a.m. on March 2.
The senate also focused on brainstorming ideas to solve issues that have prohibited senators from completing goals.
In response to concerns regarding the lengthy wait for the Institutional Review Board to approve research, Faculty Senate is inviting Walt Horton, associate vice president for research and federal relations, to come and discuss those issues. They seek to have a meeting open to all faculty, that would allow them to directly voice concerns.
Senators also said there should be faculty representation at the Texas State Board of Regents meetings. Several ideas came up, including having the host of Faculty Senate present a representative that would have a role during those meetings. Others suggested that one faculty should collect and report to the regents rather than just represent their university.
