UPDATE: Runoff election results show incumbent mayor wins reelection

The University Star will provide live coverage of San Marcos runoff election results as polling location updates are made available.

The final polling locations for the San Marcos runoff election reported unofficial results at 8:56 p.m. Here are the unofficial results for the mayoral and City Council Place 5 races.

Incumbent Mayor Jane Hughson unofficially beat challenger Juan Miguel Arredondo with 65.95% of the vote, compared to Arredondo’s 34.05%. In the Place 5 special election, Mark Gleason unofficially won with 56.01% of the vote over Omar Baca’s 43.99%.

The following are the unofficial results as of 8:56 p.m. Dec. 8 with 5,940 ballots cast:

 

City of San Marcos, Mayor: 

Jane Garnette Hughson: 65.95% (2,411)

Juan Miguel Arredondo: 34.05% (1,245)

 

City of San Marcos, City Council, Place 5, Unexpired Term:

NOTE: This is a special election to fill a vacancy in City Council Place 5.

Omar Baca: 43.99% (1,595)

Mark Gleason: 56.01% (2,031)

 

8:33 p.m. update:

Polls for the San Marcos runoff election updated at 8:33 p.m. Here’s what the mayoral and City Council Place 5 races look like with 18 of 21 polling locations reporting.

Incumbent Mayor Jane Hughson continues to lead challenger Juan Miguel Arredondo, now with 66.13% of the vote while Arredondo follows with 33.87%. In the Place 5 special election, Mark Gleason maintains his lead with 56.27% of the vote over Omar Baca’s 43.73%.

 

8:02 p.m. update:

Polls for the San Marcos runoff election updated at 8:02 p.m. Here’s what the mayoral and City Council Place 5 races look like with 13 polling locations reporting.

Incumbent Mayor Jane Hughson continues to lead challenger Juan Miguel Arredondo, now with 67.77% of the vote while Arredondo follows with 32.23%. In the Place 5 special election, Mark Gleason maintains his lead with 57.61% of the vote over Omar Baca’s 42.39%

 

7:04 p.m. update: 

Polls for the San Marcos runoff election updated at 7:04 p.m. Here’s what the mayoral and City Council Place 5 races look like with nine polling locations reporting.

Incumbent Mayor Jane Hughson leads challenger Juan Miguel Arredondo with 71.09% of the vote while Arredondo follows with 28.91%. In the Place 5 special election, Mark Gleason currently leads with 58.99% of the vote over Omar Baca with 41.01%.
