San Marcos locals and tourists can agree: floating the river is a popular, leisurely way to pass the time during the hot Texas summers. At Texas State Tubes, it’s easy to have the float of a lifetime.
Located at, 2024 N Old Bastrop Hwy, Texas State Tubes Park and Float is one of several tube rental businesses in the San Marcos area. These businesses are often located on the rivers that run through the city and surrounding areas and provide tubes that can be rented out to those who want to float the river.
Texas State Tubes, bought and founded by Rocco Moses in 2011, is now co-owned by Moses and Richard Lawrence. Both owners are proud Texas State University alumni, as are General Manager Erica Gomez and Assistant Manager Alex Roeber.
Texas State Tubes prides itself on keeping the river clean for floaters and wildlife to create the best possible experience for river-goers. Founder and owner Moses also began the Texas River Alliance, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to keeping the river beautiful, and spreading awareness on how to do so. Co-owner Lawrence said he believes this is what sets Texas State Tubes apart from other tube rental spots.
“We implemented daily river clean ups at the beginning (of opening the business) to keep the river as clean as possible from tuber trash, and our stretch of river is one of the most beautiful in the world,” Lawrence said.
Texas State Tubes offers many options to accommodate all river-goers in the area. Local tubers can drive to the property, located just down the road in Martindale, Tx. Customers may then rent tubes and begin their float down the San Marcos River. Texas State Tubes also offers tubing trips, for those who reside in Austin. These tubers are provided transportation to San Marcos and back to Austin, as well as tubes and coolers.
Texas State Tubes has seen tourists from all over the world who want to experience this “paradise” for themselves, Gomez said she has seen floaters come from Austria, New Zealand, London and many other locations and enjoys sharing her slice of Texas with everyone who comes through their doors.
“It’s so exciting to think about how their tubing experience through us can be their memory of Texas,” Gomez said. “We love to show our southern hospitality, while respecting the river!”
