Women’s basketball wins first home game of the season against Fresno State

The Texas State women’s basketball team continued its winning ways, dominating the Fresno State Bulldogs in the Bobcat’s first home game of the season 76-59 Nov. 25.
The Bobcats are now 4-1 this season and will continue to play at home for the next three games against Houston, Prairie View A&M and UTSA.
Saturday’s victory moved the Bobcats into second place of the Sun Belt Conference, behind the 5-0 UTA Mavericks and ahead of the 3-1 South Alabama Jaguars.
During her tenure as head coach Zenarae Antoine is unbeaten in home-openers, posting a record of 7-0.
Leading the Bobcats was junior guard Toshua Leavitt. The Bobcat lead all players in scoring with 28 points, a new career high.
Her former record of 24 points came in the Bobcat’s most recent matchup against Texas Southern University. This is the junior’s third time scoring 20 or more points in a game this season.
Leavitt was 9-16 in field goals and tied her season high in three pointers made, going 6-13 from three-point range. Rounding out her game, the junior added two assists and one steal.
Following behind Leavitt was senior guard Taeler Deer with 13 points and was 5-13 in field goals. The senior also added four assists and three steals against the Bulldogs.
Contributing to the success of the team, senior Erica May added five points and five assists to the mix.
Texas State was 43.4 percent shooting field goals and shot 35.5 percent from behind the three-point line.
The win against the Bulldogs is the first of four straight home games for Texas State. Up next the Bobcats host the University of Houston Cougars Nov. 28 at 7 p.m.
