Texas State Track & Field is set to compete for more titles after eight athletes qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships while competing at the NCAA West Preliminary Round this past weekend from May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Ark., hosted by the University of Arkansas, at John McDonnell Field.
The Bobcats are scheduled to compete across June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
For the men, two elite high jumpers in senior Aiden Hayes and freshman Tshephang Dankuru punched their ticket to Eugene. The pair of high jumpers recorded the same mark of 2.20 meters.
On the track, freshman Ja’Shaun Lloyd made a nationwide statement in the 110-meter hurdles by setting a new program record with a time of 13.28 seconds. Lloyd, the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, earned himself a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Graduate Drew Donley will also be heading to Eugene as well after clocking in a time of 20.59 seconds in the 200-meter sprint.
Junior Easton Hammond laid claim to a Outdoor Championships berth in the decathlon and ranks seventh in the country.
For the women, a trio of throwers advanced after strong performances. Junior Lara Roberts and senior Elisabet Runarsdottir advanced to the Outdoor Championships after recording top six finishes.
Sophomore Charlize Goody made history with a javelin throw of 52.62 meters to create a new Texas State record in the event and qualify.
Texas State is set to compete for national honors beginning Wednesday, June 10 and goes through Saturday, June 13 in Eugene, Ore. Both the men’s and women’s events will be held simultaneously and be available to watch across ESPN and ESPN2.
