Despite outscoring the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (6-2) in the first three quarters, the Texas State Bobcats (2-6) lost 74-66 Saturday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches, TX.
Five Ladyjacks found double-digit scoring for the evening. Senior guard Harmanie Dominguez led the Ladyjacks in points with 21. From the bench, freshman guard Aziyah Farrier led the team in rebounds with 11 and contributed 11 points.
Sophomore forward Kyra Anderson recorded a double-double with a team-leading 21 points and 10 rebounds. Graduate student guard Deja Jones and sophomore guard KP Parr also found double-digit scoring for the evening with 11 points each.
The Bobcats started the matchup strong with a 16-13 lead over the Ladyjacks at the end of the first quarter. Continuing this momentum, the Bobcats outscored the Ladyjacks in both the second and third quarters to enter the fourth quarter 54-49.
In the final quarter, the Bobcats were unable to maintain their lead after a layup from Farrier took the Ladyjacks to a one-point lead with seven minutes remaining. The Ladyjacks held onto the lead until the final minute to defeat the Bobcats 75-66.
The Bobcats are back at home Wednesday, Dec. 10, to face the UNT Dallas Trailblazers. The Trailblazers are coming off a 73-63 win against Our Lady of the Lake University.
Tip-off between the Bobcats and Trailblazers is set for 5 p.m. at Strahan Arena. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
