Coming off a potentially season-saving win against Coastal Carolina, Texas State (27-18) reverted to less than ideal form, dropping a midweek contest against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (22-22) by a 7-2 tally, Tuesday night at Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark.
Things got off to a good start for the Bobcats as senior right fielder Rashawn Galloway launched a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to propel the ‘Cats to an early 1-0 lead, which held through the first two innings of play.
The top of the third rolled around, with TAMU-CC trailing 1-0, but they quickly erased the deficit.
Senior outfielder Christian Smith-Johnson doubled to tie the game at 1-1. Two batters later, sophomore outfielder Will Stark hit an RBI double of his own, giving the Islanders the 2-1 lead.
Junior catcher Hunter Azemar put the exclamation on the inning for TAMU-CC, launching a two-run homer to propel the Islanders in front, 4-1.
The score held into the seventh before the Islanders added another run to the board on a sacrifice fly, pushing the lead to 5-1.
The Bobcats got one run back in the eighth as Galloway scored on a fielder’s choice, but TAMU-CC took that run back, plus one more, as the Islanders scored two runs in the ninth, ballooning the advantage to 7-2.
Texas State failed to mount a comeback in the ninth, leading to the midweek loss.
The Bobcats will look to improve their Sun Belt position this weekend as South Alabama rolls into town.
First pitch of game one between the Bobcats and Jaguars is set for 6 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2026, at Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark. The game will be streaming on ESPN+.
