After coming away with their second consecutive Sun Belt series victory Saturday night, the Texas State Bobcats (19-8, 6-3 Sun Belt) demolished the Georgia State Panthers (13-16, 2-7 Sun Belt) on the road 12-3 to wrap up a decisive sweep at the GSU Baseball Complex in Atlanta, Ga.
The Bobcats ended the weekend the way they started it with a high-scoring affair that saw multiple longballs and stellar starting pitching, led by junior Jesus Tovar, earning his SBC-best sixth win of the season while tossing a quality start of six innings and no runs scored on three hits and five strikeouts.
The top of the second inning got off to an exciting start as sophomore shortstop Dawson Park launched his then-eighth home run of the season to centerfield, giving the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead.
From there on, Texas State would score in the next seven innings. After senior catcher Rashawn Galloway drove in fellow senior third basemen Chase Mora via an RBI double in the third, his 20th consecutive game with a base hit, Park led off the fourth inning with his second home run of the game, extending the lead to 3-0.
The offensive onslaught continued, with an additional run scoring in the fifth, as the bats reached their peak in the sixth inning, as the Bobcats added on four runs. When it was all said and done, after the seventh inning saw two more runs, it was an 11-0 Texas State advantage.
With another run-rule victory in sight, Georgia State finally put some runs on the board after Galloway bobbled the bases-loaded single in the outfield, allowing all three runners on base to score, making it an 11-3 ball game, just narrowly avoiding it.
The Bobcats would tack on another run and ultimately seal their long-awaited victory for good, earning their seventh consecutive victory after coming off five-straight losses the week prior.
Texas State will return back to the Hill Country as they will look to continue their away-winning streak against the Texas Longhorns at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas.
