The Texas State Bobcats (6-2) will travel to the outskirts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area this weekend to compete in College Baseball Series in Cleburne, at La Moderna Field.
As they seek to continue their hot start to the young season, the Bobcats will take on the Abilene Christian Wildcats (5-3) and the Tarleton State Texans (5-3) over their three days in North Texas.
This will be the Bobcats’ second straight year in attending a REV Entertainment College Baseball Series event after visiting Globe Life Field in Arlington last season, where they took down then-No.19 Oklahoma State. However, rather than a midweek matchup, they will play a weekend set of games.
Here’s how the weekend shapes up:
New playing field
Texas State will be playing their games this weekend at La Moderna Field, the home of the Cleburne Railroaders, an independent league team that belongs to the American Association of Professional Baseball.
The stadium is almost a decade old as it opened in 2017 with a total capacity of 3,750 and consists of a variety of train-themed attractions over the ballpark, including life-sized trains scatterd along the confines.
The dimensions of the park are almost comparable to that of Bobcat Ballpark, with some minor size differences. La Moderna is 335 feet to right field, 400 feet to center field and 320 feet to left field, whereas Bobcat Ball park is 330 to the corners and 404 the center.
The Weekend Slate
The teams playing this weekend consist of four total teams, including the three above and the Creighton Blue Jays; however, instead of each team playing each other once, they will play just two teams, playing one team twice.
In this case, the Bobcats will get familiar with a new team they are facing for the first time: Abilene Christian. Texas State will play the Wildcats twice this weekend, in the 6 p.m. Friday night game and the final game of the series at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats Saturday game will be against Tarleton State at 6 p.m., which will be their third straight year playing the Texans and first on a neutral site.
Texas State is undefeated all-time against Tarleton State after playing them for the first time in Stephenville in 2024, including a 13-3 walloping last season.
The Bobcats will begin their weekend against ACU at at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at La Moderna Park in Cleburne, Texas.
