The 2025-26 women’s basketball season at Strahan Arena ended on a sour note Saturday afternoon as the South Alabama Jaguars (10-17, 3-13 SBC) defeated the Texas State Bobcats (11-16, 7-9 SBC), 64-59.
The scoring came slowly, with only 14 total points put on the board in the first quarter between both teams, yet South Alabama ended up with three players in double-digit points, led by imposing senior forward Daniela Gonzalez (14 Pts., 5-8 FG%, 7 Rebs).
Sixth-year forward Cordasia Harris also provided minutes in the paint, accounting for 10 rebounds while providing stiff defense.
The Bobcats had 24 turnovers, which led to 31 percent of South Alabama’s points. The Jaguars also amassed 10 steals and outrebounded the Bobcats in the defensive end, 24-19.
“I’ll be honest, I don’t sleep. Truly, I stay awake thinking about different ways to be better at just ball security. The turnovers. It’s beyond frustrating.”
Texas State did have players step up, with sixth-year guard Deja Jones and sophomore forward Kyra Anderson leading the Bobcats in minutes and racking up half their points.
Despite South Alabama dominating the game tempo and going on a 17-point run in the 4th quarter, the Bobcats refused to go silently and battled, getting within 3 points of the lead with less than a minute left in the game.
Scoring half their points in the final quarter, Texas State made the game still come down to the final plays and made South Alabama earn the win.
“That’s the fun part,” Antoine said. “while I lose sleep over the turnovers… I have so much energy and excitement and positive feelings going to work for [this team]. They fight, they grind. They don’t ever quit. So there’s something to be said for that, when you’re a competitor that I absolutely love.”
The Bobcats will end the regular season on the road, first stopping in Monroe, Louisiana on February 27 to face the ULM Warhawks at 6:30pm. The game can be streamed live on ESPN+.
