Behind a trio of triples and another stellar pitching debut, the Texas State Bobcats (2-0, 0-0 SBC) defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles (0-2, 0-0 MAAC), 11-3 Saturday night at Bobcat Ballpark. It was the second double-digit win for Texas State in as many nights on opening weekend 2026.
While the game was moved later than expected because of the weather, Texas State rained down runs late into the latter innings, a carbon copy of the night before.
Saturday’s contest featured the debut of another starting pitcher for the Bobcats, this time with southpaw freshman Nolan Moore taking the mound for the Bobcats. The newcomer silenced opposing hitters through four innings, only giving up one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts.
He was further supported by a Bobcats bullpen which only gave up five hits over as many innings and struck out six.
The offense was a bit slower to come alive than it was the previous night, but triples from freshman first baseman Tanner Carson and catcher Clayton Namken as well as junior Manny Salas.
Salas hit his in the bottom of the third inning, eventually cashing in for the first run of the night for the Bobcats. Carson and Namken both tripled in the eighth inning, where the Bobcats scored nine runs off five hits and benefitted from two errors by the Purple Eagles to put the game to bed.
Overall, the Bobcats outhit the Purple Eagles 11 to 8 and dominated in batting average with runners on and runners in scoring position (.368 to .133 and .462 to .200, respectively).
Texas State will go for the sweep of Niagara to close out opening weekend with first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, at Bobcat Ballpark. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
