Freshman forward DJ Hall put up another stellar performance to bring the Texas State Bobcats (14-11, 7-6 SBC) to a second road game win Wednesday evening, defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles (14-11, 6-6 SBC) 77-71.
Hall recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats and Eagles kept scoring close in the first half, with the largest lead for the Eagles only reaching five points. Senior center Tay Knox made a two-point dunk in the final two minutes to bring the Bobcats to a 30-29 lead. The Eagles answered this with a layup from redshirt freshman guard Dwayne Williams Jr. in the final 30 seconds of the first half.
With just under three minutes into the second half, the Bobcats took the lead and never looked back. The Bobcats held onto the lead for the remaining 17 minutes of the game to defeat the Eagles.
Four Bobcats posted double-digit scoring for the evening alongside Hall. Junior guard Kaden Gumbs scored 13 points and fifth-year guard Kyndall Davis scored 11. From the bench, senior center Makai Willis contributed 15 points.
Redshirt senior forward Alden Applewhite led the Eagles in rebounds with seven and scored 18 points. Graduate student guard Spudd Webb scored 16 points, while from the bench, sophomore guard Khayri Dunn led the team with 20 points and redshirt senior forward Nakavieon White contributed 10.
Next, the Bobcats will take a break from Sun Belt Conference play to face the Western Michigan Broncos (8-14, 2-8 MAC) at home for the MAC-SBC Challenge. The Broncos are coming off a 91-71 loss against Ohio.
The Bobcats will take on the Broncos at Strahan Arena on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
