Sophomore forward Kyra Anderson led the Bobcats with 19 points and 16 rebounds on the evening against Appalachian State. Anderson’s fifth double-double of the season helped propel the Bobcats to a 63-49 victory Wednesday night at Strahan Arena.
Sophomore guards Sanyia Burks and Mia Galbraith each contributed double-digit points as well, as Burks scored 12 and Galbraith tallied 11, respectively.
The first quarter featured minimal action, as it was slower-paced and low-scoring. By the end of the first frame, App State led 8-7.
The second quarter was a far different story for the Bobcats, who shot 50%, going 8-16 from the field. Texas State outscored App State 21-8 in the second quarter to take a 28-16 lead into the locker room at halftime. Burks accounted for nearly half of the Bobcats’ scoring in the second period, as she dropped 10 of her 12 points in the second.
Texas State continued to be effective from the field coming out of the break, scoring another 21 points in the third quarter. App State began to heat up from the field as well, shooting 7-14 in the third, but the Bobcats’ ability to keep pace kept the lead safe heading into the fourth.
The fourth quarter was back-and-forth, which was all the Bobcats needed to put the game on ice. App State outscored Texas State 17-14 in the fourth, but that was nearly enough to erase the deficit Texas State created in the second and third.
With the win, Texas State moved to .500 in conference play, sitting at 4-4, and is still sitting in a decent position to better their seed for the conference tournament.
Tip-off for Texas State’s next game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Strahan Arena against Old Dominion. The game will be streaming on ESPN+.
