UPD officers responded to a dispute outside Blanco Hall on Thursday morning, where they believe a firearm was used.
According to an 11:57 a.m. Timely Warning email from UPD, the incident occurred at 1:52 a.m. on Dec. 11 at Blanco Hall, located on 701 Moore St. The suspect had already fled the area when officers arrived.
UPD Chief Matthew Carmichael said one person was struck with a minor injury. He said there is no current threat to campus and the investigation is ongoing.
“I can tell you that no one has reported to [UPD] as somebody being shot in the hand,” Carmichael said. “No victim has identified themselves as being shot in the hand.”
Carmichael said the incident happened outside of the building, not inside, and that nothing penetrated the building but did crack a window at the front of the hall. At this time, Carmichael said he cannot reveal how many gunshots went off.
“At the time, our officers were actually conducting a safety walk inside the building,” Carmichael said. “Our officers were there within minutes.”
The suspect is described by UPD as a male with curly hair, a left hand tattoo and is wearing a grey hoodie and black pants. At this time, it is unknown if the suspect is a student or not, according to Carmichael. Anyone with information can contact UPD at 512-245-2805.
This is a developing story. The University Star will provide updates as they become available.
