The Texas State Bobcats (6-4) fell to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (3-6) 78-74 after a battle during overtime Saturday afternoon at the Resorts World Classic in Las Vegas, NV.
Throughout the first half, the Bobcats and Mountain Hawks remained close in scoring to end tied 34-34. The two teams kept this momentum in the second half with back-and-forth scoring.
Freshman forward DJ Hall gave the Bobcats a 66-64 lead after shooting a jumper with eight seconds remaining. The Mountain Hawks were quick to answer this with a two-point jumpshot from junior guard Nasir Whitlock in the final second to tie the game and go to overtime.
The Mountain Hawks and Bobcats continued to fight for the lead, but a 6-1 run from the Mountain Hawks in the final two minutes ended with a loss for the Bobcats.
Hall led the Bobcats with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Mark Drone and junior guard Kaden Gumbs both reached double-digit scoring for the afternoon. Drone had 15 points while Gumbs recorded 11.
For the Mountain Hawks, Whitlock scored a team-leading 31 points in 38 minutes of action.
Next, the Bobcats travel to Houston, Wednesday, Dec. 3, to face the Rice Owls.
Tip-off between the Bobcats and the Owls is set for 8 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
