The Texas State men’s basketball team finished its Louisiana road trip 0-2 after falling 79-71 to the University of Louisiana Monroe Feb. 17.
The Bobcats are now 14-14 for the season and 7-8 in the Sun Belt Conference.
“This is obviously a very disappointing loss,” Head coach Danny Kaspar said. “We played a team that is playing very well and are a different team than we faced the first time around. Our issues are more mental than physical. So many close losses have taken a toll on us, and psychological we have to find a way to get a win to bounce back and be ourselves again.”
The Warhawks started off strong the first three minutes in the game leading 8-4. Texas State responded with an 18-6 run that lasted almost six minutes.
ULM was able to cut the lead down to three, but Nedljko Prijovic, sophomore forward, opened it back up to six with a three-pointer.
ULM scored the last nine points going into the half. The Bobcats trailed 37-31 at halftime.
The first basket of the second half cut the lead down to four, which was the closest the Bobcats would get to the Warhawks for the remainder of the game.
The Bobcats fell short 79-71 to ULM.
As a team, the Bobcats went 49.2 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from long distance. From the free-throw line, the Bobcats shot 71.4 percent. Texas State also led the Warhawks in rebounds 31-25.
Immanuel King, senior forward, recorded a career high of 22 points. King also grabbed six rebounds for the Bobcats.
Nijal Pearson, sophomore guard, followed King in scoring with 17 points with six rebounds. Pearson dished out two assists and recorded one blocked shot.
The Bobcats will continue conference play at Strahan Coliseum Feb. 22 against Georgia State. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
