Former San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz announced Saturday that she will be running for House District 21.
Narvaiz announced the candidacy by an email sent to supporters. Nov. 11.
“As the former Mayor of San Marcos and a lifelong servant to my community, I know that now is the time for new leadership in Washington,” Narvaiz said. “Having had the opportunity to meet with many Texans in District 21, I am confident that I am the woman for the job.”
Narvaiz will compete in the Republican Primary on March 6.

State Rep. Jason Isaac announced his candidacy for U.S. Congressional District 21, Thursday.
Since 2011, Isaac has served as a Republican representing House District 45.
Issac announced the candidacy through an email sent to constituents and residents.
“During my four terms in the Texas Legislature, I’ve had the honor and privilege of participating firsthand in helping make Texas the freest state in the nation — and it’s time to take those values and experience to Washington,” Isaac said. “A new administration promises new hope for constraining the growth of the federal government, but it can’t be done without principled conservative leadership in Congress.”

U.S. Rep Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, sent a letter Nov. 2 stating he will not seek re-election and will finish out his term representing the 21st district of Texas.
Smith’s 16th term in office will expire January 2019. The district covers San Antonio and parts of San Marcos. Smith has represented the district since he was first elected in 1986.
“With over a year remaining in my term, there is still much to do,” Smith stated. “There is legislation to enact, dozens of hearings to hold and hundreds of votes to cast. Our nation faces many challenges but we will always prevail if we put the interests of American citizens and taxpayers first. A successful democracy requires an honest media, true patriots and respect for the rule of law. All of us can do our part to help promote these ideals.”
Derrick Crowe, democratic candidate was challenging Smith for the seat.
Crowe has visited San Marcos, meeting voters since the August.
