An individual was stabbed after a fight occurred at 4:20 a.m. near Sean Patrick’s on Feb. 28, according to Public Safety Communications Specialist Russell Wilde.
Wilde wrote in an email to The Star that Jose Luis Rodriguez Jr. remained at the scene of the fight and was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Rodriguez is reported to be a contractor for Enterprise Professional Services, Inc. (EPSI) who was working downtown emptying trash cans.
After the assault, the stabbed individual entered an idling vehicle that did not belong to him, drove down Hopkins Street and crashed into a pole across from city hall, temporarily knocking out power to more than 2,000 customers, Wilde wrote.
Officers near the H-E-B on E. Hopkins St. made contact with the individual and transported to Ascension Medical Group Seton in critical condition.
SMPD is actively investigating the situation and all information at this stage remains preliminary, according to Wilde. No other injuries were reported.
This is a developing story. The University Star will provide updates as they become available.
