A San Marcos resident died Oct. 11 after a late-night collision between a black 2018 Nissan Altima and a semitractor-trailer on the northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 35.
Justice of the Peace Jo Ann Prado pronounced Texas State alumna Jayde Nicole Sherbert, born May 27, 1996, dead at the scene of the wreck, which happened at Exit 123 at 10:30 p.m. Sherbert was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
Investigators believe Sherbert was texting just before the collision and have yet to determine the speed of the two vehicles involved in the accident. At the time of the collision, northbound traffic had been slowed due to road construction.
The San Marcos Police Department Collision Investigation Team is still investigating the collision.
