Men’s basketball wins both exhibition matches of the season

The Texas State men’s basketball team hosted two exhibition games Nov. 2 and Nov. 4 and won both games 76-64 and 77-48.

Thursday’s game saw all proceeds go to the Jefferson County United Way as the Bobcats competed against St. Edwards. Along with raising money for a cause, Texas State won its first exhibition game 76-64.

The Bobcats were in the lead against the Hilltoppers for both halves—38-30 at the end of the first and 38-34 at the end of the second half.

Overall, Texas State had a 50.0 field goal percentage and a 28.6 three-point field goal percentage. At the free throw line, the Bobcats scored 55.2 percent.

Leading the team for the Bobcats was sophomore guard Nijal Pearson with 21 points. Pearson went 6-for-15 at field goals and scored 9-for-13 of his free throws. Pearson had one block and two steals.

Behind Pearson with 16 points was redshirt sophomore Eric Terry. Terry went 5-for-7 in field goals and 6-to-9 for free throws. Terry also had two blocks.

Collectively, the Bobcats had five blocks and seven steals.

Saturday’s game Texas State competed against Rogers State and defeated the Hillcats 77-48.

Familiar faces of last year’s team, Bobby Conley Jr. and O.J. Black attended the game sitting court side to support their Bobcats.

At the end of the first half, the Bobcats were in the lead 37-19. By the end of the game, Texas State’s field goal percentage was 50.0 and its free throw percentage was 65.8.

This time, it was senior forward Immanuel King who lead the team with 13 total points. King also had three blocks and one steal.

After completing two exhibition games, the Bobcats will compete in their first regular season on the road against the Air Force in Colorado Spring, Colorado Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.
