The Texas State Women’s tennis team defeated Prairie View A&M 7-0 Saturday, March 3, at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats grabbed the early lead after winning 2-of-3 doubles matches.
Alex Jones, senior, and Rishona Israel-Lewis, freshman, took the first loss of the day with a 6-0 score to Nebarika Rama and Constanza Aranguiz in the top-seeded doubles match.
Joy Chia Ming Ming, junior, and Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez, freshman, teamed up and tied the doubles match 1-1 with a 6-1 victory against Stacy Lackey and Timara Maxwell in the no.3 match. The Bobcats received the doubles point after Ana Perez, junior, and Julia Navajo-Melendez, junior, defeated Shaddae Findley and Tatiana Ruhi in a 6-4 decision.
The Bobcats started to take control during the singles matches, winning all six.
Navajo-Melendez took a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jimena Duran-Castell in the no.3 match. Then, Israel-Lewis captured another victory for the Bobcats in the no.2 match with a 6-1, 6-2 score over Rama. Andrea Fuchs, freshman, grabbed another defeat for the team over Maxwell in a 6-2, 6-1 score in the no.6 match.
Perez defeated Lackey in a 6-2, 6-3 decision in the top seeded match of the singles match. Chia Ming Ming posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Findley in the no. 5 match. In the final singles match of the day, Jones took a three-set decision after she defeated Aranguiz in a 10-7 comeback tiebreaker. Jones took the first set with a 6-4 score then Aranguiz received the second set victory with a 7-5 score.
The Victory pulls the Bobcats to a 1-7 overall record on the season, while Prairie View A&M falls to 2-12.
