Former student pleads guilty in drunk driving, manslaughter case from 2016

A former Texas State student has plead guilty to two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault with a vehicle after killing two people in an alcohol-related crash and awaits sentencing.
Shana Elliott was attending Texas State in Fall 2016 when she, at 21 drank and drove. She hit another vehicle killing Fabian Guerrero, a San Marcos man, injuring his wife, Kristian Guerrero, and killing their unborn child as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
On March 6, Elliott plead guilty and is currently awaiting sentencing. Typically, Intoxication manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. With two counts, Elliot could be facing 40 years in prison.
Elliott’s sentencing will be decided by a jury and delivered this afternoon according to the 274th Judicial District Court.
