Texas State women’s basketball added Deidra Johnson as an assistant coach Oct. 8. Johnson most recently serving as an assistant at Arkansas State where she helped lead the Red Wolves to a school-record 27-6 overall record and 19-1 in the Sun Belt in 2015-16.

Deidra Johnson will join the Texas State women’s basketball team as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, the team announced Oct. 8.
Johnson will join Head Coach Zenarae Antoine’s team as it looks to improve on last season, where the team finished 13-17, 6-12 in the Sun Belt conference.
“To have a chance to join and learn under the leadership of someone that I admire as a role model, respect as a competitor and care about as a friend in Coach Z is an opportunity of a lifetime,” Johnson said. “I’m very anxious to meet and get to work with the players and staff, to continue the building efforts towards winning a championship.”
Johnson is familiar with the Sun Belt Conference, most recently serving as an assistant at Arkansas State where she helped lead the Red Wolves to a school-record 27-6 overall record and 19-1 in the Sun Belt in 2015-16.
Under Antoine, Johnson will primarily be responsible for coaching guards.
